Focusing on God’s Work

1 Corinthians 7:30 reminds us that happiness or sadness or wealth should not keep anyone from doing God’s work.image

The objective of Paul’s discourse in this chapter is to encourage unequivocal focus upon doing the work of the Lord. His reasoning for this emphasis is due to his understanding of our position in Christ; we who belong to Him have been purchased by Him by His blood and therefore are now slaves of God rather than slaves to sin.

Furthermore this world and we who live in it, will soon pass away therefore we must put forth as much effort as possible to be productive toward the work of God since our time to bear fruit is short.

Unrivaled focus, and much effort, are not ways we typically think of when we consider the responsibility God has entrusted to His people for building His kingdom.

The kingdom of God is the people of God who live under the authority of King Jesus the Savior of the world. People enter this Kingdom first by being born physically into this world then by being born spiritually into His world through repentance and faith in Jesus Christ.

The people of God then participate in Kingdom building both by having as many children as possible to lead to the Lord and then by converting as many people as possible by leading them to the Lord. The Christian’s primary purpose is to lead people to the Lord beginning with our own household.

This work is not contingent upon our feelings, whether we are happy or sad nor our income whether we are wealthy or poor but upon the command of the Lord and Savior of all Jesus Christ the eternal King.

God will reward us based upon our faithfulness to His mission and not for anything we have done for ourselves.
