Holiness in Christ: Set Apart to Endure and Proclaim the Gospel

(Heb) 10:9-10, 14, 31, 35-36, 38-39 CJB “and then, “Look, I have come to do your will”; he takes away the first system in order to set up the second. It is in connection with this will that we have been separated for God and made holy, once and for all, through the offering of Yeshua the Messiah’s body. For by a single offering he has brought to the goal for all time those who are being set apart for God and made holy. It is a terrifying thing to fall into the hands of the living God! So don’t throw away that courage of yours, which carries with it such a great reward. For you need to hold out; so that, by having done what God wills, you may receive what he has promised. But the person who is righteous will live his life by trusting, and if he shrinks back, I will not be pleased with him.” However, we are not the kind who shrink back and are destroyed; on the contrary, we keep trusting and thus preserve our lives!”

Holiness in Christ: Endure, Don’t Shrink Back

Our holiness in Christ is not earned—it is given. Hebrews 10 reminds us that God has replaced the old system of repeated sacrifices with one final, perfect sacrifice: Jesus Himself. “By a single offering he has brought to the goal for all time those who are being set apart for God and made holy.”

This means our holiness in Christ is secured by Jesus, not achieved by us. We are made holy through His body, once for all. But this holiness is not passive—it produces a life of obedience to God.

Holiness in Christ Is Proven by Endurance

If we belong to Jesus, our lives will reflect it. We obey God, not to become holy, but because we are holy. Our loyalty to Christ is revealed in how we live, especially when it costs us.

Hebrews warns us clearly: “Do not throw away that courage of yours… you need to hold out.” The righteous live by trusting, not shrinking back.

True holiness in Christ endures.

Holiness in Christ Will Bring Suffering

Following Jesus does not lead to comfort—it leads to conflict. When we refuse sin, confront rebellion, and call others to repentance, we will face resistance.

This is normal.

Our identification with Jesus brings suffering because the world rejects Him. If we never experience opposition, we should examine whether we are truly living out our faith.

Do Not Shrink Back

“It is a terrifying thing to fall into the hands of the living God.”

That warning is meant to wake us up. We are not those who shrink back. We are those who keep trusting and preserve our lives.

Your holiness in Christ must endure to the end. This is how we receive what God has promised.
