Ezekiel 14:6, 14, 18 NIV “Therefore say to the people of Israel, ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: Repent! Turn from your idols and renounce all your detestable practices!… Even if these three men—Noah, Daniel, and Job—were in it, they could save only themselves by their righteousness, declares the Sovereign Lord… they could not save their own sons or daughters. They alone would be saved.’” Ezekiel 14:6–18 NIV
Most men want to live strong, successful, and secure lives. But few understand that real strength begins with repentance—a man turning from his idols and bowing before God in humility and obedience.
The road to eternal life is narrow, and Jesus warned it would be difficult. Many talk about faith, but few actually walk the path of repentance that proves it. The evidence of saving faith is a life that continually turns away from sin and toward Jesus, trusting His finished work at the cross for pardon and righteousness.
God made it clear through Ezekiel: even men as righteous as Noah, Daniel, and Job couldn’t save anyone but themselves. Each faced a world in rebellion and still chose obedience:
-
Noah worked for 100 years building an ark in a world that mocked him.
-
Daniel prayed daily for mercy and refused to compromise even when it meant the lions’ den.
-
Job endured suffering without abandoning faith, ultimately humbling himself before God’s justice.
These men didn’t just believe—they obeyed. They repented. They stayed faithful when it was costly. And God calls today’s men to do the same.
Too many of us live distracted, divided lives—trying to follow Jesus while chasing the world’s approval, possessions, or pleasures. But we can’t straddle both kingdoms. Repentance means cutting ties with sin and fully aligning with God’s commands. It means being the kind of man who, like Noah, Daniel, and Job, lives righteously no matter the ridicule, resistance, or risk.
If we won’t repent, we won’t be saved. If we won’t humble ourselves before God, we’ll never stand with Him.
Men, it’s time to get serious. Identify your idols—whatever pulls your devotion away from Jesus—and destroy them. Repent from sin and recommit to obedience.
Live like Noah—faithful when no one else is.
Pray like Daniel—devoted when it costs you everything.
Endure like Job—trusting God when life makes no sense.
You can’t save anyone else if you won’t first be saved yourself.
Run today’s play: Repent, return, and run after righteousness.
That’s how real men follow Jesus on the narrow road to life.
