“Finally, be strengthened by the Lord and by his vast strength. Put on the full armor of God so that you can stand against the schemes of the devil. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers of this darkness, against evil, spiritual forces in the heavens…..Stand, therefore, with truth like a belt around your waist, righteousness like armor on your chest, and your feet sandaled with readiness for the gospel of peace. In every situation take up the shield of faith with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit — which is the word of God.” Ephesians 6:10-12, 14-17 CSB https://bible.com/bible/1713/eph.6.10-17.CSB
The armor of God is not for making us strong but for providing us the Lord’s strength. The focus is not on us but on the Lord, Who is increasingly more visible through the one whom He dwells with by the power of His Holy Spirit. We do not need our strength to fight men but God’s strength to fight ideas and activities of evil spirits that keep people from faith and obedience to God. So we must know the word of God in depth and breadth, for it holds us up like a belt to pants. We must obey this word diligently, for it protects us from hypocrisy and being part of the devil’s work like an armor on our chest. We are to actively make disciples by sharing the gospel and teaching obedience to His commands. Doing God’s work keeps us busy and away from useless and evil work. We must continue to rebuke the lies and misinformation about God in the world, stopping these things by sharing the truth with ourselves and others like a shield deflecting arrows. We remind ourselves of God’s word daily, for the war of truth begins in our minds before it manifests through our actions. We then carry this truth, the truth of God’s word, into every discussion and obey what it says at every opportunity so that everywhere and all the time, Jesus is seen and heard from us and through us as King of kings and Lord of lords, the only Savior of the world.
