Believe to Obey: The Work God Requires of Every Man

John 6:26-29 NIV “Jesus answered, ‘Very truly I tell you, you are looking for me, not because you saw the signs I performed but because you ate the loaves and had your fill. Do not work for food that spoils, but for food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give you. For on him God the Father has placed his seal of approval.’ Then they asked him, ‘What must we do to do the works God requires?’ Jesus answered, ‘The work of God is this: to believe in the one he has sent.’”

Two Spiritual Traps Every Christian Man Must Confront

1. Seeking God for His Gifts, Not His Glory
Too many of us approach God like a cosmic problem-solver. We pray for financial relief, relational breakthroughs, or career success, but rarely for deeper holiness. This is the gospel of the TV preacher—promising blessings for donations and attendance—yet it’s far from Jesus’ call.

God’s goal is not our comfort but our character. He forms holiness through obedience, suffering, and disciple-making. Fulfillment and joy aren’t found in bigger paychecks or stress-free lives, but in knowing God and doing His will.

2. Belief Without Obedience
Even demons believe God exists (James 2:19), but they don’t submit to Him. Intellectual agreement is not saving faith. Jesus perfectly believed the Father and proved it through perfect obedience—culminating in the cross.

To “believe in the one He has sent” means trusting Jesus as Lord and living in thankful obedience. Real faith works itself out in action: worship, service, disciple-making, and holy living.

Brothers, examine your motives.

  • Why do you seek Jesus? For blessings or for Him alone?

  • Does your belief show in obedience? Or is it merely words?

Your family, your work, and your legacy depend on how you answer. True manhood rejects the false security of passive belief and embraces the hard work of faith—discipline, sacrifice, and courageous witness.

Jesus promises that when we seek Him for who He is and live as His humble servants, we enjoy His presence now and His eternal reign on the new earth. That’s real provision. That’s lasting purpose.

Play of the Day
Today, pray: “Lord, I want You more than comfort. Help me believe and obey.”
Then act—lead your household in Scripture tonight. Share the gospel with a coworker this week. Make your belief visible through obedience.

Christian men, the work God requires is clear: believe—and live that belief with courageous obedience.
