“Behold, I am going to send for many fishermen,” declares Yahweh, “and they will fish for them; and afterwards I will send for many hunters, and they will hunt them from every mountain and every hill and from the crevices of the rocks. “For My eyes are on all their ways; they are not hidden from My face, nor is their iniquity concealed from My eyes.” Jeremiah 16:16-17 LSB https://bible.com/bible/3345/jer.16.16-17.LSB
When God came to earth to live among us as one of us He choose followers to continue His work after Him. These followers would be trained by God to become fishers of men. God has always been at work seeking to restore humanity to Himself. Since our creation, humanity has been in rebellion against God. Instead of worshipping our Creator we have sought to be the creator. Made in His image to be glorious and awesome as He is glorious and awesome, we swell with pride at our power and might, seeking worship of ourselves rather than the worship of the One True God. Our self-worship expressed through our ignoring and disobeying God and His will for our lives, results in our own destruction as we so clearly see all around us. Yet God loves us so He seeks after us to restore us to Himself through those who have been restored already. Those who love God serve God by hunting and fishing for others who will turn to God for healing and restoration. The work of every Christian is the Great Commission, the ministry of going into our world and sharing the work of Jesus with others to find those who will respond to God in repentance, faith, and obedience, eventually joining in this work. Fishing and hunting is necessary for not all will respond positively to the message of God’s love, some will even become hostile to those who share His love, but hunt and fish we must if we love God who loves everyone, and we love people who are broken and desperately in need of a Savior.
