“If the Lord delights in us, then he will bring us into this land and give it to us – a land that is flowing with milk and honey. Only do not rebel against the Lord, and do not fear the people of the land, for they are bread for us. Their protection has turned aside from them, but the Lord is with us. Do not fear them!”……… The Lord said to Moses, “How long will this people despise me, and how long will they not believe in me, in spite of the signs that I have done among them?”

One of the Bible’s central themes is without faith it is impossible to please God. Faith is necessary when circumstances require more from us than we believe we have capacity to deliver. Faith is essential when we need God’s presence because our presence is not enough. God places us in these positions to grow our faith, to develop our trust in Him so that we will attempt even greater things for God and see even more of His glory. God is limitless and all powerful yet we make Him so small in our lives by our lack of faith in Him. We seek to be independent and self-sufficient, the antithesis of faith and of what God desires from us. We do not need to part seas. We need to stand for Jesus in an increasingly hostile world to His ways. We need more saying no to the practices of men while explaining and proclaiming the good ways of God. Fear of men is keeping us from faith in God. What will be our result? God will cut off from Himself the person who denies Him, who rejects Him, who is ashamed of Him before men. We can proclaim ourselves Israelites and still miss the Promised Land because we refused to trust in God Whose evidence in our lives has been abundant. Knowing God and living by faith is not synonymous. Living by faith is engaging the work of God that requires the presence of God so that the person of God is revealed to us and others for the glory of God in Jesus the Savior of the world.
