Ephesians 1:19 promises His incomparably great power for us who believe.
Power, most everyone wants it but few have ever managed having it well.
God promises power to His people, at least that is what the Apostle prays God’s church would know and understand.
The power God wants His people to experience is the same power that God exhibited when He raised Himself in Jesus from the dead. What is His power for?
Certainly the power of God will be exhibited when He raises His people from the dead. The living God declares all people will also live forever. God is eternal and the people He made, since they are created in His image, are likewise destined to live forever.
We are not quite eternal since we have a start date but we will have no end date! However not everyone will live forever with God in His coming Kingdom. Only the children of God will live forever with God.
Who are the children of God? All those who believe that God has come in Jesus the Savior to restore us to God the Father and in believing, humble themselves before God to do His will for His glory forever.
This is the current purpose for the power of God. God wants us to know His power for living His way in this world that resists His will.
Even our own bodies are disposed at birth to rebel against God. The infant who intentionally defies his parents exhibits for us the same attitude we are also born with toward God – defiance, rebellion and disobedience.
This is why everyone must repent, ask God’s forgiveness and seek His presence in there lives in order to live in a way that pleases God. We need God’s power in our lives today to live holy lives because in ourselves we are incapable of such holy living.
It is the power of God working in us Who makes possible our forgiving the rapist, murderer and persecutor. It is the power of God working in us that makes possible our giving and serving the poor, ugly, weak and vulnerable. It is the power of God working in us that makes possible our ability to live for those things that please God rather than those things that impress people.
The power of God is available to the people of God but it’s use is for the glory of God.
