Mark 8.11-12 demands a miracle for us but God responds, ‘certainly not!’
When God lived among us as the Man Jesus He did many things to convince men that God was with them. However when scoffers demanded a miracle God refused to comply.
People still demand God to prove Himself to them before they will believe and God most often refuses to respond.
While God still does miracles today He does not respond to the proud but to the humble man He shows Himself strong. God has already given us everything we need to prove His existence if we will but honestly search for Him.
Creation declares the glory of God both in its breadth and in its beauty. Creation is both complex and orderly portraying its Creator as both grand and wise.
God has also worked through men over hundreds of years to record His work, His will and His ways. The written record of God is the Bible and in it we find Him. All we need to know about God He has revealed to us through the Scriptures.
Finally, His personal appearance in Jesus is historical fact. God has come as a man so that people could understand God. Jesus’ ultimate miracle was His resurrection from the dead proving Himself to be the Author of life and demonstrating His power over death.
God still invites people to reconcile with Him that they might know Him personally and live with Him eternally but to do so we must humble ourselves before Him and not demand He perform for us.
