And by being perfected in this way, he became the source of eternal salvation to all who obey him,…… On this topic we have much to say and it is difficult to explain, since you have become sluggish in hearing……But solid food is for the mature, whose perceptions are trained by practice to discern both good and evil.” Hebrews 5:9, 11, 14 NET https://bible.com/bible/107/heb.5.9-14.NET
Jesus saves, and only He saves people from the judgment to come when we all meet God the Father face to face to give account for how we lived in obedience to His commands. One of the men I used to meet with regularly to help him grow in his faith shared with me his latest read, a book about Buddha and Jesus. I appreciate this brother always reading to grow, but his source of material lacks discernment. Buddha and Jesus are not the same, nor do they lead people in the same direction. Buddha doesn’t believe in God and teaches a means to happiness that, if followed, will lead people to hell, for when they stand before the One True God, they will have failed at obeying that God while they lived before Him on earth but followed Buddha. Jesus is God and requires us to love Him with all of our heart, soul, mind, and strength by loving our neighbor as ourselves. We know this from reading consistently the Scriptures given to humanity for knowing Him and doing His will so that we can live forever with Him. These Scriptures must be put into practice and obeyed; in doing them, we learn their wisdom, becoming increasingly more able to discern good and evil. The Scripture, the Church, and the Holy Spirit are God’s provision for us to know Him and to do His will so that He can welcome us into His eternal dwelling place through Jesus, Who died for our sins and rose from the dead to bring us home forever to Him.
