Live Worthy of Your Calling: Let God’s Power Fulfill Your Purpose

2 Thessalonians 1:11 (NIV) “With this in mind, we constantly pray for you, that our God may make you worthy of his calling, and that by his power he may bring to fruition your every desire for goodness and your every deed prompted by faith.”

Every man of God wrestles with the question, “Am I living worthy of God’s calling on my life?”
It’s a question of purpose, provision, and priorities. We want our lives to count—to build something that lasts, to serve in ways that matter, and to see the fruit of our labor bring glory to God.

But Scripture reminds us that worthiness doesn’t come from our performance—it comes from God’s power working in us. Paul prayed that believers would be made worthy of their calling by God’s power, not by their own plans or discipline. The Christian life begins and continues by grace.

Still, grace is never an excuse for passivity. Paul also prayed that God would bring to fruition “every desire for goodness and every deed prompted by faith.” That means God expects His people to desire good and act in faith—then rely on Him to make those desires and deeds effective.

Men who walk with God must hold two truths in tension:

  • Dependence on God’s power. Every good work, every vision, every act of faith is only fruitful because He empowers it.

  • Diligence in obedience. God calls us to plan, to move, to build, to disciple, to lead—not waiting idly, but advancing prayerfully.

The right response to calling is not anxiety or apathy, but alignment—praying for God’s will, planning to pursue His purpose, and proceeding in faith that He will lead, provide, and bless according to His design.

When a man desires to see God’s Word spread to new places, new people, and deeper hearts, that’s not ambition—it’s obedience. The call of God compels us outward. But as Paul reminds us, only God’s power can make those efforts truly fruitful.
