Scripture: Mark 7:6–9, 13 (NIV) “These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. They worship me in vain; their teachings are merely human rules. You have let go of the commands of God and are holding on to human traditions… Thus you nullify the word of God by your tradition that you have handed down.”
Too many Christian men are stuck checking spiritual boxes—attending church, praying over meals, volunteering on occasion—without actually walking in relationship with the living God. Jesus didn’t die so we could punch a religious timecard. He came to restore a relationship. A real one. Daily. Deep. Demanding.
The danger? We become modern Pharisees—men who say the right things but live detached from God’s heart. Jesus calls it out: “Your lips say one thing, but your heart is far from Me.” It’s not just hollow religion. It’s rebellion cloaked in ritual.
Here’s the hard truth:
Religion is easy. Relationship is hard.
Religion allows us to stay in control, look spiritual, and keep God at a distance. Relationship forces us to surrender, submit, and serve—every day, in every area, not just on Sundays.
God is not a system.
He’s a Father.
And just like no man wants to be in a marriage built on duty without devotion, God is not interested in cold compliance. He wants connection—real, raw, regular obedience rooted in love. Not tradition. Not routine. Not performance.
-
Communion isn’t just a ceremony—it’s a call to remember Christ in everything you do.
-
Baptism isn’t just a ritual—it’s a declaration that your whole life belongs to Him.
-
Discipleship isn’t just a study—it’s your purpose: to lead, teach, serve, and multiply others for Jesus.
Men, this isn’t about throwing out every form or habit. It’s about prioritizing God’s Word over man-made systems and living each day as proof of your love for Him.
Ask yourself:
-
Are my spiritual habits producing deeper obedience or just routine performance?
-
Do I truly seek God’s will in my work, my home, my decisions—or do I just give Him lip service?
-
Am I making disciples, or am I just attending services?
God doesn’t need more churchgoers.
He’s calling for kingdom men—men of purpose, obedience, and heart.
Don’t settle for playing church.
Walk with God. Daily. Boldly. Honestly.
