America is not the new Israel. The Church is not the new Israel. However, the history of this country is of a Christian people seeking a place to worship the One True God freely and to live according to His commandments as they understood them from His word. As a result of living fairly obedient lives to God, this country produced tremendous wealth and power for all. Now we seem consumed by pleasure. Our flesh rules us. We want happiness more than holiness. We want our gain more than God’s glory, and we are quickly imploding as a country. God has chosen His Church to be His people, but His people must obey His commands if they will receive His reward either in this life or in the life to come. The people of God are to obey God and seek further to obey God through the study, application, and sharing of the word of God among all people, especially those in the Church. God’s mission for His people is the Great Commission, the crescendo of which is the reproduction of the full life of Christ in every person. God seeks a family, a kingdom, of children all behaving like His First Born Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, Who is God and Man. The children of God do not become gods, but they are to live like God in holiness, love, and righteousness before God and one another. Obedience to the word of God, which prescribes the life God wants, is how the Church accomplishes the will of God that pleases God and results in the blessing of God. If America is going to be peaceful, joyful, and fruitful again, it will be because the Church stopped living a life of pleasure and selfishness and instead sought God to obey His commands. Foremost among them is leading all people into obedience to everything Jesus has commanded us.
