“Following after Paul and us, she kept crying out, saying, “These men are slaves of the Most High God, who are proclaiming to you the way of salvation……” and after he brought them out, he said, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?” And they said, “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved, you and your house.” And they spoke the word of the Lord to him together with all who were in his household. And he took them that very hour of the night and washed their wounds, and immediately he was baptized, he and all his household.” Acts 16:17, 30-33 LSB https://bible.com/bible/3345/act.16.17-33.LSB
What are Christians and what do they do? They are slaves of the Most High God whose work is to proclaim the way of salvation. What does this look like? When people are finally convicted of their sin and ask the question what must they do to be saved, then they are told to believe in the Lord Jesus. This belief is in the person of Jesus, God made flesh, and the work of Jesus, He died on the cross taking upon Himself the punishment of God for the sins of humanity. This Jesus rose from the dead proving His sacrifice was acceptable to God the Father making Him judge of all humanity for all eternity and allowing Him to declare righteous, acceptable to God as holy, all those who come to Him for forgiveness of sins and cleansing of their lives by His blood appropriated to them. This belief is given evidence by baptism, the symbol of death to sin and resurrection to new life, of forgiveness of sins and appropriation of righteousness for the purposes of living an obedient life to everything Jesus commanded us forever. The word of the Lord is that we become His people through the work of Jesus for proclaiming to all people the work of Jesus by joining together with God’s people for accomplishing the will of God on earth as it is in heaven. This is the life of the Christian, serving God by proclaiming the gospel to the lost and teaching the saved to obey everything Jesus has commanded us.
