To Whom Or What Are We Seeking God?

“Now when they say to you, “Inquire of the mediums and the spiritists who whisper and mutter,” should not a people inquire of their God? Should they inquire of the dead on behalf of the living?……To the law and to the testimony! If they do not speak according to this word, it is because they have no dawn.” (Isaiah 8:19–20 LSB) https://accordance.bible/link/read/LSB#Is._8:19

To what or to whom are we seeking God? Many have and still do seek those who have passed from this life and have entered the next. They want to hear from these ‘spirits’ for various reasons. Others look at the stars and try to determine from them their destiny. God scoffs at such behaviors from men. He is the One Who gives life and determines where men reside upon their expiration from this world. The Almighty is the One Who made the stars, the universe, and everything in it. The Lord finds foolish the person who seeks anything or anyone but Him for knowledge, wisdom, and understanding for how to live well in this life and in the next life. God has given us the Scriptures for knowing Him and doing His will. If we would seriously want to know how to live and what the future holds for all humanity then we would grab hold of the letter God has recorded of Himself for us so that we could answer our questions His way and align then our deeds with His will. We are always looking for shortcuts, the easiest path, the way that makes the most sense to us rather than pursuing the One True God, doing the hard work that leads to eternal life, and pursuing the words of God rather than the words of men. The road is wide and easy is the path that leads to eternal destruction, and many are upon it. Narrow is the road and difficult is the path that leads to eternal life with God, and few are those upon it! Looking to anything but God to understand God and the future is foolish but God has made knowing these things simple by recording everything we need to know about Him and His plan for us in the Scriptures.
