We Are All Responsible For How We Live This Life Before God

1 Peter 4:3-6 NIV records, “For you have spent enough time in the past doing what pagans choose to do—living in debauchery, lust, drunkenness, orgies, carousing and detestable idolatry. They are surprised that you do not join them in their reckless, wild living, and they heap abuse on you. But they will have to give account to him who is ready to judge the living and the dead. For this is the reason the gospel was preached even to those who are now dead, so that they might be judged according to human standards in regard to the body, but live according to God in regard to the spirit.” https://bible.com/bible/111/1pe.4.6.NIV

How we live reflects what we believe about God and His judgment of us. While most people think they’re essentially good, they do whatever they please, assuming God will accept them. The Christian goes to God’s Word, Scripture, to know what God defines as good in order to obey His commands so that they will be accepted by God on the day of their reckoning. How foolish to gamble on eternity by assuming we inherently know what is good and that we are indeed good. The Bible’s premise is that we are born sinful, our bodies coming into this world corrupt with the DNA of rebellion against God and man locked into them, made obvious to everyone in the behavior of the child, and left unrestrained in the evil behavior of so many. This is why no one is born a Christian and why everyone must be born again to become a Christian. Even when we become Christians, this body will die because of that sinful DNA, but our spirit will live in eternity with God in heaven and then with a new body upon the new earth when Jesus returns and establishes His kingdom forever with all those who have ever loved Him. Knowing this, the Christian must live as Jesus did, no longer engaging the evil practices of our culture and suffering their ridicule and scorn for refusing to do so. All of us who claim Jesus as Lord should suffer in this way to some degree, for the world despises those who call their good evil and refuse to participate in their evil ways. The Scripture defines God’s requirements for us and not the majority of opinions or opinions drummed upon us by the media and the educational system of our country. What we listen to will determine how we live, and how we live will determine where we spend eternity.
