“And he died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for him who died for them and was raised again. Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here! All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting people’s sins against them. And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation. 2 Corinthians 5:15, 17-19 NIV https://bible.com/bible/111/2co.5.15-17.NIV
Christians are quite familiar with the term new creation, which is what we are. What Christians are not familiar with is what that means for their lives. When Jesus is an addition to our lives, we continue doing what we have always done, hoping God will now bless us along the way. When Jesus becomes our life, this is what it means to be born again. He replaces our old dead life with His life-giving Spirit, making us a new creation to be finalized when we receive our new bodies that are eternal like His. Our old lives focused on the things of this world: pleasure, power, and personal fulfillment. These things lead to death with the result of eternal separation from God in hell. When the Spirit leads our lives, we focus on the things of God, using these bodies to accomplish the work of God until we receive our new bodies to enjoy God’s reward forever. The work of God is reconciling the world to Christ. Those born again, born of the Spirit, work in cooperation with the Spirit, Who convicts the world of sin, righteousness, and judgment whenever we share the gospel with others using our mouth, creating opportunities for witness with our deeds by going to people with our feet. Those who are new creations, born of the Spirit, are now co-laborers with God, working with God to reconcile the world to God the Lord Jesus, Who is the Savior of all. How do we know we are indeed a new creation born again of the Spirit? We seek to save the lost by serving, sacrificing, and sharing with men the love of God in Christ Jesus the Lord through the demonstrating and communicating of the gospel to see all those we know come to newness of life in Christ, becoming new creations even as we are to join us in the work we are doing.
