Why Christians Must Put Into Action The Great Commission

“executing vengeance on those who do not know God and to those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus. These will pay the penalty of eternal destruction, away from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of His might,” 2 Thessalonians 1:8-9 LSB https://bible.com/bible/3345/2th.1.8-9.LSB

These verses describe why the Church has been left upon the earth and why each Christian must put into action the Great Commission. God is love, and God is just. God showed us His love by coming to earth to live among us as one of us so that we could live forever with Him in His eternal kingdom. God showed He is just by sacrificing Himself upon the cross as payment for the sins of men. This disobedience all of us are born into must be punished by a God Who is holy and just. God’s love for us punished Jesus. Our continued disobedience to God will result in His punishment of us. Through the gospel, we escape the wrath to come and receive the blessing of life eternal in health and happiness. What is this gospel? We are evil and must repent of our disobedience toward God. God is just punishing us for our rebellion against Him.  Jesus died in my place for my rebellion and rose from the dead, proving His promise to me is true that by submitting myself to Him, humbling and gratefully acknowledging His sacrifice for me, I will live forever with Him in full pardon for all my disobedience. Who do we know that needs to repent and walk with Jesus lest they die today and receive condemnation forever from God? We have much work to do, for many do not love God or obey His commands. This is our mission, the Great Commission. God so loves the world that He sent His Son and left His Church to tell of His love so that no one perishes, but all receive eternal life with Him. Will we love God by sharing His love, and will we love our neighbor by helping them escape the judgment to come?
