John 4:34-36 NIV “My food,” said Jesus, “is to do the will of him who sent me and to finish his work. Don’t you have a saying, ‘It’s still four months until harvest’? I tell you, open your eyes and look at the fields! They are ripe for harvest. Even now the one who reaps draws a wage and harvests a crop for eternal life, so that the sower and the reaper may be glad together.” https://bible.com/bible/111/jhn.4.34-36.NIV
A starving person is obvious. They are emaciated, gaunt, weak, and lethargic. Mentally and emotionally, like their physical bodies, they are shut down. The food of God was doing the will of God. Food makes us strong, food makes us healthy, food gives us energy, food makes us vibrant. The impact of the modern Church in America is poor, weak, and lethargic. The people who are in the Church are not eating daily from the table of obedience to everything Jesus commands. The work of God is the Great Commission. This is why it is the mission of every Christian. Seeking and saving the lost in a harvest field ripe with people needing Jesus is where Christians are called to work by sharing the gospel with them through living holy lives, calling everyone to repentance and faith in Jesus, and then obedience to everything Jesus commands. Doing the work of God and eating daily from the will of God makes the man of God strong, healthy, vibrant, fruitful, and pleasurable to God our Savior. Jesus, Who is God, was a mighty man of God among us when He lived with us. His strength, His vitality, His power came from His obedience, His commitment, and His focus upon His Father and doing His will even unto death, death upon a cross. Starving people seek food and, upon finding it, eat ravenously. The Church has food everywhere; the fields are ripe in America. Are we hungry for pleasing God, obeying His commands, doing His will, and glorifying His Name on earth as it is in heaven? Do we look like those ravenous for eating deeply at the table of God? All are commanded to follow Jesus, to live as He lived. Where are the hungry whose souls are filled by doing the will of God through obedience to the Great Commission in America?
