Grace and Truth: How to Find Favor with God and Man

(Pro) 3:3-4 CJB “Do not let grace and truth leave you — bind them around your neck; write them on the tablet of your heart. Then you will win favor and esteem in the sight of God and of people.”

Jesus is the perfect example of grace and truth. He embodied both fully. His truth was so clear it caused men to hesitate to question Him. His grace was so strong that even in frustration with their lack of faith, He continued to love, correct, and serve them.

He never chose one over the other. He lived both.

Grace and Truth Must Be Held Together

Many men naturally lean one direction.

Some emphasize truth.
They speak what is right.
But without grace, relationships suffer.

Others emphasize grace.
They show kindness and patience.
But without truth, there is no correction, no growth.

Grace and truth must be held together.

Truth without grace becomes harsh and legalistic.
Grace without truth becomes permissive and weak.

The man who reflects God learns to speak truth in love—holding both without compromise.

Grace and Truth Build Influence

Proverbs says this combination leads to favor with God and man.

When a man grows in grace and truth, people listen.

Why?

Because:

  • Grace earns the right to be heard
  • Truth delivers what needs to be said

This is the key in leadership, in the home, and in everyday relationships.

Men need truth—but they must receive it through grace.

God Himself models this. He does not treat people as their sins deserve. He corrects, but with patience. He rebukes, but with mercy. He calls for obedience, but with love.

The man who reflects God does the same.

Grace and Truth Must Be Practiced Daily

This does not happen naturally. It must be practiced.

A man must grow in:

  • Showing patience when frustrated
  • Speaking truth without harshness
  • Extending grace without lowering standards

This is the balance Jesus lived—and the balance every man must pursue.

Grace and truth is not weakness.
It is strength under control.
