Luke 16.11 observes if you are untrustworthy about worldly wealth, who will trust you with the true riches of heaven?
What are the true riches of heaven? Knowing God deeply and enjoying Him forever is certainly first. God is about relationship not about stuff making the true riches deep joyful relationships.
After we have accumulated a bunch of stuff and put money into our bank accounts we too realize that life is not about what we possess but about the people we love and who love us.
Peace, joy and hope are other heavenly riches. God Who lived among us left promising peace of mind, joy of heart and hope for tomorrow.
Worldly wealth has a way of keeping us from these things. Either the work at accumulating them or the fear of losing them steals our peace and joy in life leaving us without hope.
Peace and joy are byproducts of right relationships, with God and others, filling us with hope, the assurance of a positive future, where these relationships will only continue to get better forever.
So if we lack intimacy with God and peace, joy and hope with Him and others what might that reveal about our hearts? Perhaps we are placing too much emphasis upon accumulating or keeping money at the expense of our relationships with God and others?
It is people and not possessions that bring us real contentment in life, at least when our relationships are right. Right relationships with people begin with a right relationship with God Who alone can empower us to love others as we love ourselves.
If we want to be truly rich we will seek a deeper relationship with God Who will then work in us and through us to create deeper relationships with others.
