Betrayed for Silver: God’s Broken Covenant and the New Way of Salvation

Zechariah 11:10-14 NIV “Then I took my staff called Favor and broke it, revoking the covenant I had made with all the nations. It was revoked on that day, and so the oppressed of the flock who were watching me knew it was the word of the Lord. I told them, “If you think it best, give me my pay; but if not, keep it.” So they paid me thirty pieces of silver. And the Lord said to me, “Throw it to the potter”—the handsome price at which they valued me! So I took the thirty pieces of silver and threw them to the potter at the house of the Lord. Then I broke my second staff called Union, breaking the family bond between Judah and Israel.” https://bible.com/bible/111/zec.11.14.NIV

The Lord’s favor and His union with Israel alone have been broken for thirty pieces of silver. Like Judas, Israel betrayed the Love of God for them to have their own way. The Lord will have His way. For now, all people from every nation are welcome to become His people through faith in Jesus as their Savior and Lord. To the Jew first who recognizes the Messiah Jesus, their Savior, they remain the chosen people of God. To the Gentile who rejects their false gods and turns to Jesus for reconciliation with God by faith, they become the chosen people of God through the New Covenant established by the blood of Jesus. The favor of the Lord is upon all those, but only those who are in right relationship with Him through faith in the work of Jesus for saving humanity accomplished at the cross. Union with the Lord Almighty, where He is our Father and we are His children, is with all those, but only those who have been adopted by Him through the blood of the Son shed for the sins of all humanity. God has fulfilled His covenant with Israel, payment was made, and He has established a New Covenant that includes all people everywhere who will turn to Him for reconciliation and the forgiveness of their sins through Jesus, the Messiah and Savior of the world. There is no other Name under heaven given to men by which we can be saved.
