Can You Get To Heaven Without Loving God?

Mark 10.23-25 describes, looking at His disciples, Jesus said, “Do you have any idea how difficult it is for people who ‘have it all’ to enter God’s kingdom?” The disciples couldn’t believe what they were hearing, but Jesus kept on: “You can’t imagine how difficult. I’d say it’s easier for a camel to go through a needle’s eye than for the rich to get into God’s kingdom.”

Truly one of the most disturbing teachings in all of Scripture for us in 21st century America. Are we really going to be saved? Would any of us give everything we have to the poor and follow Jesus, trusting Him to supply our housing, food, and other necessities? (more…)

God Wants Us Smart About Him

Luke 16.8-9 observes, here’s a surprise: The master praised the crooked manager! And why? Because he knew how to look after himself. Streetwise people are smarter in this regard than law-abiding citizens. They are on constant alert, looking for angles, surviving by their wits. I want you to be smart in the same way—but for what is right —using every adversity to stimulate you to creative survival, to concentrate your attention on the bare essentials, so you’ll live, really live, and not complacently just get by on good behavior. MSG

What does it mean to be kingdom street smart? For this is God’s will for us in Christ Jesus. A clue is found in this passage, we are to be focused on the things above and not be sucked into the things of this world. Like the man on the streets who is wary of the pimp, the drug dealer, the gang leader who might grab him for his own evil purposes, so too the man of God must be wary of the allurement of power, pleasure, and possessions from taking him off God’s purposes.

Accountability Occurs in This Life And In The Next

Romans 2.6-10 describes, God will repay each person according to what they have done. To those who by persistence in doing good seek glory, honor and immortality, he will give eternal life. But for those who are self-seeking and who reject the truth and follow evil, there will be wrath and anger. There will be trouble and distress for every human being who does evil: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile; but glory, honor and peace for everyone who does good: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile.

Judgement awaits every man. All people who believe in God, any god, believe a day of accountability awaits us when we pass from this life to the next. The atheist tries to ignore this inherent knowledge so as to justify their evil behavior and to keep their conscience from condemning their actions. (more…)

The Choice is Clear, The Decision Costs Everything

Deuteronomy 30.15-18 offers, I set before you today life and prosperity, death and destruction. For I command you today to love the Lord your God, to walk in obedience to Him, and to keep His commands, decrees and laws; then you will live and increase, and the Lord your God will bless you in the land you are entering to possess. But if your heart turns away and you are not obedient, and if you are drawn away to bow down to other gods and worship them, I declare to you this day that you will certainly be destroyed. You will not live long in the land you are crossing the Jordan to enter and possess. (more…)

What Happens When We Die?

John 11.25-26 records, Jesus said to her, I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in Me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in Me will never die. Do you believe this?

One of the questions Christians have is when will we see Jesus? Is it upon our death immediately from this body or is it at a later date when He raises this body from the dead? Do we leave this body and join Jesus in some other state of being when we die or do we sleep until He returns to earth and raises us with this body to newness of life? (more…)

Running The Race Requires Perseverance And The Help Of Others.

Galatians 5.7 observes, you were running a good race. Who cut in on you to keep you from obeying the truth?

The Christian life is a journey to a destination where the journey continues forever and ever. Like living with a family, it is daily, forever we hope, changing yet always the same. It is good but sometimes it is hard. It brings us our greatest joy but also can bring us our greatest sorrow.
