Confession of Jesus is Required for Loving Jesus

“And we have seen and we testify that the Father has sent his Son as the world’s Savior. Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God — God remains in him and he in God. And we have come to know and to believe the love that God has for us. God is love, and the one who remains in love remains in God, and God remains in him.” 1 John 4:14-16 CSB https://bible.com/bible/1713/1jn.4.15-16.CSB

We must confess with our mouths and believe in our hearts that Jesus is God the Savior, Whose sacrifice alone on the cross can rescue us from the condemnation we rightly deserve for being rebellious image bearers of God. Where must we make this confession? Certainly, before the people of God gathered together, we participate in baptism, symbolizing what Jesus has done for us in cleansing our sins even as it symbolizes our surrender to Him as Lord by dying to ourselves. We must then confess our belief before those who have not yet believed so that they, too, can be saved from the wrath to come because of their ignoring God in Jesus and disobeying His commands. The destiny of all humanity is eternal condemnation because we are born rebels against God, proven by our lives before we profess our faith, repent from such dead living, and begin to follow Jesus through obedience to everything He has commanded. God so loves the world that He desires all people to be reconciled to Him through His gracious provision of eternal pardon in Jesus the Savior. The work of God in Jesus, and the love of God in Jesus, is the responsibility of the people of God to make known in the world. God continues to work by His Spirit, seeking and saving the lost. God looks for faithful laborers in His harvest who will join Him in this work by confessing before men Jesus is Lord and Savior of all.
