(Jhn) 8:21, 24, 51 CJB “Again he told them, “I am going away, and you will look for me, but you will die in your sin — where I am going, you cannot come.” This is why I said to you that you will die in your sins; for if you do not trust that I AM [who I say I am], you will die in your sins.” Yes, indeed! I tell you that whoever obeys my teaching will never see death.”
Jesus gives one of the most sobering warnings in all of Scripture: a man will either die in his sin or live forever with God.
There is no middle ground.
Humanity is born with a fatal condition—sin. It is not learned; it is revealed. From the earliest moments of life, we demonstrate a natural resistance to God’s authority and a preference for our own way.
The world tells us we are basically good.
Jesus tells us the truth—we are separated from God and under judgment.
Death itself is the evidence.
Every funeral testifies that something is wrong with humanity. Scripture makes it clear: sin leads to death, and apart from God, no man escapes it.
Left unchanged, this condition results in eternal separation from God—what Jesus calls dying in your sin.
Men spend their lives chasing:
-
success
-
provision
-
security
-
recognition
But Jesus redirects the focus entirely.
The greatest problem is not lack of money or opportunity.
It is unforgiven sin.
A man can gain everything the world offers and still lose his soul.
True purpose is not found in building a life for yourself—it is found in being reconciled to God.
True provision is not wealth—it is forgiveness and eternal life.
True priority is not comfort—it is knowing and obeying Jesus.
Jesus does not leave us without hope.
He says:
“If you do not trust that I AM who I say I am, you will die in your sins.”
The solution is not self-improvement.
It is not religion.
It is not effort.
The solution is faith in Jesus.
To trust Him means:
-
believing He is God in the flesh
-
recognizing Him as the perfect sacrifice for sin
-
trusting His death and resurrection as your only hope
-
submitting your life to His authority
This is what it means to be born again—to receive new life from God.
Jesus also says:
“Whoever obeys my teaching will never see death.”
Obedience does not earn salvation—but it reveals genuine faith.
A man who truly trusts Jesus:
-
confesses Him openly
-
identifies with Him
-
begins to live under His authority
This includes:
-
turning from sin
-
being baptized
-
walking daily in obedience
Not perfectly—but persistently.
Jesus makes it clear:
-
Reject Him → die in your sin → eternal separation
-
Trust and follow Him → never see death → eternal life
Every man will experience one of these outcomes.
The question is not if—but which.
Run Today’s Play:
First, examine your standing before God.
Are you trusting in Jesus alone—or in yourself?
Second, respond with faith and surrender.
Confess Jesus as Lord. Turn from sin. Commit your life fully to Him.
Third, walk in obedience today.
Choose one command of Jesus and obey it—fully and immediately.
Because the most important decision you will ever make is this:
Will you die in your sin…
or live forever with Christ?
