“Only carefully obey the command and instruction that Moses the Lord’s servant gave you: to love the Lord your God, walk in all his ways, keep his commands, be loyal to him, and serve him with all your heart and all your soul.”” Joshua 22:5 CSB https://bible.com/bible/1713/jos.22.5.CSB
As the tribes of Israel begin to separate into their respective parcels of land, Joshua reminds them of their responsibility to God as the people of God. The simple summary of the law of Moses is repeated by Jesus in all of His teachings regarding Who God is and what God requires from us. What God requires is right for us and not overwhelming us because He is gentle and humble among us, making His burden easy and His load light. God is humble, gentle, kind, and good; His requirements reflect this. God is also King of the universe, Ruler of all that is or was or ever will be, and the Sustainer of all life. His requirements reflect this, too, in what He requires from us. Love, loyalty, and service are what we are to exhibit before God in our relationships with each other, for His law is nearly always about how we demonstrate love for one another. God’s ways are only difficult because we are so selfish, arrogant, self-seeking, and self-serving all the time. Yet living this way makes us miserable, for it ruins our relationships and breaks our relationship with God, Who gives us our meaning, purpose, and joy when we live with Him for Him in the world. God is good, and His way makes sense, particularly compared to all the other requirements the false gods created by the false religions of men have developed for humanity. Love God, serve, obey, and be loyal to Him. Simple, reasonable, and necessary for our eternal joy, peace, and life with God and all those who have ever loved Him.
