Living As Strangers In This World

“They do not belong to the world just as I do not belong to the world. Set them apart in the truth; your word is truth. Just as you sent me into the world, so I sent them into the world. And I set myself apart on their behalf, so that they too may be truly set apart.” John 17:16-19 NET https://bible.com/bible/107/jhn.17.16-19.NET

Jesus so loved the world He came to the world to give His life for the salvation of the world. Jesus is God and is Man. Jesus never sinned against God. Born of a woman but not from the seed of a man, He lived among us as one of us to obey God perfectly so He could sacrifice Himself for men. His death paid for all humanity’s sins. His resurrection proved His sacrifice was accepted. We are pardoned for our disobedience to God by His work appropriated to us. Those who believe in this work of salvation through Jesus are forgiven and adopted as children of God. As children, we are now to live as Jesus lived among us. Holy, godly lives of serving God by loving people into the kingdom of God. We are no longer citizens of this world but citizens of the kingdom of God reflecting His values and purpose rather than this world’s purpose and values. We learn these values from God’s word, and by obeying the Scriptures, we increasingly differentiate ourselves from the world. God’s ways are not man’s ways. God’s ways are clearly articulated in the Scripture that the children of God must, like Jesus, hunger to know and obey, for we no longer live to do our own will but the will of Him Who sent us to seek and save the lost just as He came to save sinners of whom we once lived like.
