“Just as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of Man be lifted up, so that everyone who believes in him may have eternal life.” For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world should be saved through him. The one who believes in him is not condemned. The one who does not believe has been condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the one and only Son of God….The one who believes in the Son has eternal life. The one who rejects the Son will not see life, but God’s wrath remains on him.” John 3:14-15, 17-18, 36 NET https://bible.com/bible/107/jhn.3.14-36.NET
We have been given one command. The second is like it, love God with all of our heart, soul, mind, and strength and love our neighbor as ourselves. We do this command as we fulfill our one responsibility, to go to people and make disciples teaching them to obey everything Jesus has commanded. The Great Commandment is fulfilled in our obedience to the Great Commission. Our occupation is to see God’s kingdom come upon the earth as it is in heaven, using our vocation to pay for this work even as we do it at our vocation. Simple but not easy because we fear men more than God, and we love the world more than God. We do not understand the wrath of God that remains upon those who refuse to turn to Jesus to be reconciled to God. We do not understand the depth of God’s love for us in coming to us and sacrificing Himself for us to be reconciled to God. Our love for God and men must grow if we will fulfill the purpose for which God has left us on earth. He so longs to work through us to accomplish by us His purposes for restoring all people so that all creation is with Him for all eternity.
