Jeremiah 33.24 records the Lord has rejected the two families of Israel and Judah.
As Jerusalem was about to fall to its enemy the Babylonians, the people dismissed all hope of God rescuing them. Indeed God was committed to destroying the nation for it had been in rebellion against Him for hundreds of years.
However God was not committed to wiping out the knowledge of Him among a few people or to destroying His redemptive work in the world through the Jews. This work would continue through Jesus, Who in the flesh was the son of David but in reality was the Son of God.
Since the early 1900’s a world-view has dominated the Church which understands God abandoning the world except for His church.
This perspective sees the world increasing in evil until at the last moment God comes and rescues His church before it is destroyed by the evil nations. This world-view has caused many within the Church to stop working at winning the nations to Christ and from doing good works to make the world a better place.
Hospitals, orphanages and schools are just some of the good works great saints of the past engaged upon when their perspective was that God wanted the world fully made aware of Him and His salvation through Jesus Christ and that He expected Christians to do good works for all humanity in keeping with their repentance. It was during these times the church grew and had its greatest effect upon the world.
These past hundred years have seen a decline in Christian evangelistic activity as well as fewer great accomplishments by Christians for the welfare of the world.
God has not abandoned His redemptive work in the world.
It is time for the church to awake from its slumber and once again commit itself wholly and fully to working passionately for the salvation of all and to doing good works which glorify God causing people to worship Him.
