Our Faith Is Both Now And Later

So Ephron’s field in Machpelah near Mamre—both the field and the cave in it, and all the trees within the borders of the field—was deeded to Abraham as his property in the presence of all the Hittites who had come to the gate of the city. So the field and the cave in it were deeded to Abraham by the Hittites as a burial site.” ‭‭Genesis‬ ‭23‬:‭17‬-‭18‬, ‭20‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Abraham’s journey into and possession of the Promised Land is exemplary to the Christian life. God promised Abraham that all the land he walked upon was his and would be the property of his descendants who would likewise be as many as the stars in the sky. Yet Abraham did not experience ownership of the land during his lifetime and in the lifetime of his two sons, only one of whom would carry on the promise from God. Instead Abraham had to buy property that he owned because he did not yet own the land from the perspective of men thought it was declared so by God. The Christian has life forever, peace with God, and unity among all peoples of all kinds who are fellow brothers and sisters in Christ. The Christian has abundant life and the very presence of God within them. Yet now we see all this as though in a thick fog, now we experience this only somewhat, and we still die, leaving behind on this earth those we love. We still get sick and we still fight with one another not because God’s promises are not true but because they are not fully yet. Like Abraham we are living in the assurance of God’s love and favor but we wont fully receive the promise of eternal life until we pass from this life into the next and receive from Him the new bodies that are free from sin to live on a new earth free from sin where God reigns physically and we all live forever in abundance with joy, love, peace, and gladness of heart with all those who likewise love the Lord Jesus Christ and have done His will on this earth waiting expectantly for the full deliverance of His promises.
