Our Speech Reveals Our Character

““Make a tree good and its fruit will be good, or make a tree bad and its fruit will be bad, for a tree is known by its fruit. Offspring of vipers! How are you able to say anything good, since you are evil? For the mouth speaks from what fills the heart. The good person brings good things out of his good treasury, and the evil person brings evil things out of his evil treasury. I tell you that on the day of judgment, people will give an account for every worthless word they speak. For by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned.”” Matthew 12:33-37 NET https://bible.com/bible/107/mat.12.33-37.NET

The most apparent quality of a good person is the good words they constantly speak. Making ourselves good or revealing how bad we are is speaking honorably. How do we talk to God and man with honoring words? By filling our hearts with love, kindness, and goodness. How do we do this? We supply our minds with God’s word to become like Him in His attitude and ways toward others so that our words become increasingly godly, encouraging, and holy. We can build treasure in our hearts, but God’s word is the only real treasure. We must consume His word to contain His ways to manifest His presence before others. God in us coming out of us for the benefit of others reveals we are indeed His. God hears and records our words and deeds for judging the guilty and rewarding the redeemed. Our hateful words are punished at the cross if Jesus is our Savior. Our words should be ever increasingly more God and man-honoring. Until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God, if we are indeed good people, people in whom the Lord is well pleased.
