God commands us to be holy as He is holy. How do we do this? By cleansing ourselves from everything that defiles body and spirit. What does it mean to be defiled? It is the corruption of moral character. It ruins the purpose of the object ruined. In our bodies, we are to remove those things that corrupt our character and keep us from God’s purpose for our lives. This is why drunkenness is condemned. Alcohol corrupts our character and keeps us from obeying His word and Spirit. Changing gender identities is a defilement of our body, for it declares we know better than God, Who made us the gender we are to be, and keeps us from fulfilling His purpose for us as the gender He created us. Defilement of Spirit is listening to then following those voices in the world that speak against or opposite of God’s Holy Word. Obedience to God makes us holy. Disobedience to God defiles us. When we listen to the media, the university, and the government rhetoric about what is right and wrong, who we are, and how we are to live instead of God, Who made us for His purposes to live with Him forever in a familial relationship with the rest of humanity, we defile ourselves and keep ourselves from eternal life with Jesus and all those who have ever loved Him. So then, we should stop those things that defile us and do what God commanded in the Scriptures. In this way, we will live holy lives demonstrating our relationship with the Almighty God Who is Holy.
