““Go, inquire of Yahweh for me and the people and all Judah, concerning the words of this book that has been found, for great is the wrath of Yahweh which is set aflame against us, because our fathers have not listened to the words of this book, to do according to all that is written concerning us…..” thus says Yahweh, “Behold, I am bringing evil on this place and on its inhabitants, even all the words of the book which the king of Judah had read….. because your heart was soft and you humbled yourself before Yahweh when you heard what I spoke against this place and against its inhabitants that they should become an object of horror, and a curse, and you have torn your clothes and wept before Me, I truly have heard you,” declares Yahweh.” 2 Kings 22:13, 16, 19 LSB https://bible.com/bible/3345/2ki.22.13-19.LSB
Israel was in a tough place. The people were suffering hard times because they continued to disobey the Lord. Then they ‘discovered’ God’s word and, upon reading it, knew they had been disobedient to God and were subject to His wrath. The Lord, Who is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love, promised to execute His wrath upon Israel but not upon the king who listened to His voice through His word, humbled himself before his God, and chose to live in obedience to His commands. Michigan has just voted into law the most menacing allowance for the murder of the unborn and the maiming of innocent children anywhere in the world. This change to our constitution results from ignorance and rebellion against the Word of God, Who is the Author of Life, all life from conception to death, and the Creator of male and female intentionally, specifically, and purposely for His glory. This new law either reflects the poverty of Christians to know God’s word so that they can obey His word or the effectiveness of Christians to win the unsaved in our midst, resulting in their being a minority voice and thus unable to overcome the votes of the pagans. In either case, the church must return to teaching obedience among its members to the word of God and to winning the lost to the ways of God. The evil in our times, which will increase, is due to the church failing to know God’s word, obey God’s word, and win people to God’s ways as commanded in God’s word to His church. What should the church do now? Repent of its failure. Return diligently to God’s word to obey it. Reengage the lost to win them to Christ until we are obedient followers of everything Jesus has commanded.
