Return – The Only Way Back for a Nation in Crisis

Jeremiah 4:1–4 NIV “If you, Israel, will return, then return to me,” declares the Lord. “If you put your detestable idols out of my sight and no longer go astray, and if in a truthful, just and righteous way you swear, ‘As surely as the Lord lives,’ then the nations will invoke blessings by him and in him they will boast.” This is what the Lord says to the people of Judah and to Jerusalem: “Break up your unplowed ground and do not sow among thorns. Circumcise yourselves to the Lord, circumcise your hearts, you people of Judah and inhabitants of Jerusalem, or my wrath will flare up and burn like fire because of the evil you have done—burn with no one to quench it.”

Men, there’s endless debate over whether the United States was ever truly a “Christian nation.” But let’s be real—no nation in history has been made up entirely of people fully obedient to God. Since Adam and Eve, humanity’s default mode has been rebellion.

Still, there was a time in America when the majority of men and women saw the world through a biblical lens—where God’s Word shaped morality, decision-making, and the rhythm of daily life. That’s what a “Christian nation” looks like: not perfection, but a people whose public and private lives revolve around God’s truth.

We are far from that now. Most Americans no longer hold to a biblical worldview. Instead, they worship other gods—some the idols of false religions, but far more the idol of self. We may not literally call ourselves “gods,” but we live as though our personal desires are supreme.

We demand that life revolve around our happiness, our comfort, our success. We ignore the One True God who made us for Himself, who designed us to flourish in harmony with His ways. Instead, we rebel—and it’s killing us. The proof? Death itself, the final and unavoidable reminder that we are not in control.

But there is hope.
God calls us to repent—to turn from rebellion, to seek Him with everything in us, and to prove our love by obeying Him with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength.

This isn’t just about personal blessing—it’s the only path to a healthy, thriving nation. “Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord” (Psalm 33:12). God doesn’t delight in judgment. He came to save all who will repent and believe. But His invitation won’t stay open forever.

Men, it starts with us. Break up the hard ground of your heart. Throw away your idols. Return to the Lord. Live out loud for Jesus.

Because when the men of a nation bow to God, the nation bows too.
