Run with Endurance: The Christian Mission Requires Perseverance

(Heb) 12:1, 3-4 CJB “So then, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us, too, put aside every impediment — that is, the sin which easily hampers our forward movement — and keep running with endurance in the contest set before us, Yes, think about him who endured such hostility against himself from sinners, so that you won’t grow tired or become despondent. You have not yet resisted to the point of shedding blood in the contest against sin.”

Run with endurance—this is the call of every follower of Jesus. Hebrews 12 tells us to lay aside every sin and keep running the race set before us. This is not a casual walk. It is a race that requires focus, discipline, and perseverance.

Under the Old Covenant, God gave His people a law and a land. They were to display His wisdom so the nations would come to Him. But they failed. They disobeyed. They lost both the blessing and the land.

Now under the New Covenant, God has given His people a mission and His Spirit.

We are not called to stay. We are called to go.

Run with Endurance in the Mission

To run with endurance means we stay faithful to the mission no matter the cost.

We go to all people.
We proclaim Jesus as Savior and Lord.
We call people to repentance and obedience.

This is the Father’s will—that none perish, but that all come to eternal life.

But this mission is not easy.

Jesus endured hostility.
Jesus suffered rejection.
Jesus was crucified.

If we follow Him, we will experience the same.

Run with Endurance Through Suffering

Hebrews says, “Consider Him… so that you won’t grow tired or give up.”

When you run with endurance, you will face pressure:

  • Rejection from people
  • Resistance to truth
  • Opposition to your faith

This is not failure. This is faithfulness.

You have not yet resisted to the point of shedding blood—but the call is to keep going anyway.

Don’t shrink back.

Run with Endurance for the Reward

Jesus is now seated as King of kings and Lord of lords.

Every knee will bow.
Every tongue will confess.

Those who follow Him—who live for Him and speak for Him—will share in His reward.

So we don’t live for this world.

We live for the one to come.

We run with endurance, knowing that what awaits is greater than what we endure.

Run Today’s Play:

Lay aside one sin that is slowing you down. Deal with it today.

Step into one opportunity to speak for Jesus—even if it costs you.

Fix your eyes on Christ. Remember what He endured for you.

Then run.

Don’t coast. Don’t quit. Don’t shrink back.

Run with endurance.
