The Christian Promise And Purpose

2 Peter 3:13-15 NIV “But in keeping with his promise we are looking forward to a new heaven and a new earth, where righteousness dwells. So then, dear friends, since you are looking forward to this, make every effort to be found spotless, blameless and at peace with him. Bear in mind that our Lord’s patience means salvation, just as our dear brother Paul also wrote you with the wisdom that God gave him.” https://bible.com/bible/111/2pe.3.13-15.NIV

The Christian hope is a new heaven and new earth where God lives with His people, and His people live together forever in abundance, health, love, joy, peace, freedom, equality, and justice. It is not virgins for the best men like the Muslims. It is not becoming gods and having our own planet like the Mormons. It is not coming back to this earth a better person like the Hindus. It is not a field of flowers and peace like the Buddhists. The Christian hope is life, life with God in person and life together with people of all kinds, male and female, with no separation in value, worth, or dignity by gender or color, IQ, income, or any other thing this world uses to separate us and exclude one another. Since we will be living with a holy God, we are to begin practicing holy living with one another now. Likewise, His delay in establishing this new earth is because He wants more people there. The path to eternal life with God is through Jesus the Savior. The current children of God are to share Jesus with all people so that everyone can repent, believe, and obey Jesus as Savior and Lord and live forever with Him and all those who have ever loved Him. The Great Commission is the mission of every Christian, which is to share Jesus with people while living and to teach obedience to every word Jesus has commanded.
