“¶“You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt has become tasteless, how will it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out to be trampled under foot by men. ¶“You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden; nor does anyone light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on the lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. “Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.” Matthew 5:13-16 LSB https://bible.com/bible/3345/mat.5.13-16.LSB
Has the American church lost its saltiness? Is this why we see such a trampling of God’s ways under the feet of the people in our days? Have we failed to shine His light of truth on the issues of our day so that all men see the wisdom of God and the righteousness of His people and therefore praise His Name? How can the church regain its saltiness? If we take it, the prescription for our disorder is found in 2 Chronicles 7.14. The people of God must humble themselves before God owning our failure to live obedient lives or to witness to men of Christ and His demand that every knee bow and every tongue confess that He is Lord. The church must pray for their neighbors, our leaders, and one another, and pray that we would be holy people as God is holy. The church must seek God by making daily Bible reading our lifetime habit and by meeting with the people of God to encourage one another in the ways of God as often as possible. The church must obey everything Jesus has commanded us. Obedience is the way we love God best because it shows we love God first, and this is His command. When the church engages these things humbly, seriously, and diligently, God will hear our prayers, forgive our sins, and heal our land. Then the church will be salt in the world as it lives as lights in the world, drawing all people to Jesus, the Savior of the world.
