““You shall know therefore that Yahweh your God, He is God, the faithful God, who keeps His covenant and His lovingkindness to a thousand generations with those who love Him and keep His commandments; but repays those who hate Him to their faces, to make them perish; He will not delay with him who hates Him, He will repay him to his face. “Therefore, you shall keep the commandment and the statutes and the judgments which I am commanding you today, to do them.” (Deuteronomy 7:9–11 LSB) https://accordance.bible/link/read/LSB#Deut._7:9
Nearly everyone believes in a god, but who is their god? For most everyone, their god is no god. They have created a moral agent in their mind, whom they are in right relationship with because they of course live rightly with the god of their creation. The One True God, Who is truly God, is not this way. He loves deeply His creation but He is creator and we are not the product of random chance evolving over billions of years. As Creator, Lord over all, Sustainer of all that exists, He requires us to know Him, to love Him, and to obey Him. This is of course His right, His prerogative, for He alone is God. So then what does the One True God require of us? Know Him, love Him, and obey Him. Simple to understand, logical to assume, obvious if indeed He is and He judges all who have ever existed. Indeed, the One True God promises to judge all men by His standard. Those who pursued Him to know Him so that they could love Him by obeying Him will live forever with Him in peace, health, joy, and love. Those who ignored Him, rejected Him, failed to seek Him so they could obey Him, will be condemned by Him to live forever away from Him in eternal torment and suffering for thinking themselves superior to the God Who made them and holds all men accountable to Himself. Why are we so hard headed? Why are we so hard hearted? God is so good, so loving, so merciful, so gracious, so willing to pardon us for our disobedience, so willing to love us despite our lack of reciprocity to His love. We are all passing from this world to the next. We really only have one critical objective in this world. To know our Creator, to reconcile with our God by loving Him and obeying Him until we are rejoined to Him forever.
