The Long Road To Knowing God

Matthew 7.13-14 commands, don’t look for shortcuts to God. The market is flooded with surefire, easygoing formulas for a successful life that can be practiced in your spare time. Don’t fall for that stuff, even though crowds of people do. The way to life—to God!—is vigorous and requires total attention. MSG

The way to God, to know Him, is vigorous and requires total attention! Of course it does! God is great. He deserves our best effort and deepest pursuit. We must pursue Him. We must pick up the Scriptures, the writings He has generously given to us for knowing Him and how we are to live.

It is our duty, our responsibility, to pursue God and when we do, He promises to be found by us. God is not in hiding but He is withholding Himself from the arrogant, the proud, the self-sufficient. He reveals Himself to the humble, to the poor in Spirit, to the spiritually weak who are morally deficient at obedience to God and know it. God shows up among those who show up in pursuit of Him.

Again, the pursuit of God by men begins by grabbing the Scriptures and reading them for knowing God and what He requires of men. Then we pray, we pray asking God for help, strength and opportunity to implement the will of God as He revealed to us in the Word of God. We don’t do this alone, but we join our brothers and sisters also in pursuit of God for He wishes to be known as our Father and we are to live as His children, as family, living, working and playing together for the glory of our Father.

The issue we have today is most men are not vigorously pursuing God, they are not giving God their greatest attention or making Him their first priority which explains the culture’s demise from the ways of God as revealed in the Word of God. Let us not be such men but rather workmen, showing ourselves able to accurately handle the Word of truth.
