and that repentance for forgiveness of sins would be proclaimed in His name to all the nations, beginning from Jerusalem. You are witnesses of these things.” Luke 24:47-48 LSB https://bible.com/bible/3345/luk.24.47-48.LSB
Luke records Jesus, the Lord God Almighty, Who founded the Church and commanded His people to build it, the most straightforward message of the Church. That message is for all people throughout the world to repent for sinning against God by both doing, speaking, and thinking those things that violate the will of God and for not actively, wholeheartedly doing the will of God, culminating in loving Him with all of our heart, soul, mind, and strength and loving our neighbor as ourself. Our failure to obey His commands and give our best effort toward doing His commands is a sin and must be stopped and turned away from. The bad is to cease, and the good is to increase. This is the will of God for us and the mark of true repentance. What do we receive for such repentance? Forgiveness of our sins. The eternal consequence we justly deserve is erased, and condemnation in torment and suffering is eliminated. Instead, God welcomes us with open arms into His eternal dwelling place, where we shall live in joy, peace, and love forever. Jesus upon the cross exchanges the righteousness He earned through perfect obedience to the will of the Father by never doing that which He condemns and always doing that which He commands, is appropriated to us as righteousness in exchange for the condemnation we deserve for all of the sins we have ever done including those beyond the point of our repentance. The need of the hour is for the Church to obey His command to witness His deed done for all humanity to free humanity from the penalty of sin and to give us the hope of abundant and eternal life with Him.
