Why was the son of Abraham blessed by God? Because the father obeyed God, everything God said to him he did. If we want the best life for our children, we will live according to God’s will for our lives. Living in obedience to God and teaching obedience to God are the best things parents can do for the children they have received from God. To be successful at this endeavor parents must seek God through His word. God was clear, Abraham obeyed His commands, statues, and laws. In whatever form God communicated Who He is and what He requires, Abraham obeyed. God has communicated clearly Who He is and what He requires from us through the Scriptures. God gives us gifted teachers and preachers in the church to help us understand and apply those scriptures. God gives us one another in the church to encourage us in the application of those Scriptures so that we are without excuse to know and do the will of God as described in the word of God. Bringing this word and these assets home to our children is the primary function of parents for God desires godly children. God wants to bless the next generation with the knowledge of Him as that generation obeys Him but to do so the parents’ generation must acknowledge Him and obey His commands. We are desperate today for a new generation of parents who will earnestly seek the Lord, obey His commands, and teach them to their children so that they might live blessed by God for they too walk in His good and healthy ways to their own eternal benefit.
