John 17:20–21, 23, 26 NIV“My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me. I in them and you in me—so that they may be brought to complete unity. Then the world will know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me. I have made you known to them, and will continue to make you known in order that the love you have for me may be in them and that I myself may be in them.”
Men searching for purpose and direction often overlook the very foundation Jesus prayed for before the cross: unity. This is not a shallow agreement to “get along.” It’s a supernatural oneness rooted in total love for Jesus and absolute obedience to His Word.
Jesus wants His followers to be united the way He and the Father are united—through surrendered love and complete obedience. Our unity is not tolerance of any lifestyle or belief; it’s loyalty to Christ. God is patient with sinners but never tolerant of sin. The cross proves it: the Father did not overlook sin—He crushed it in His own Son so we could be reconciled.
True unity happens when we love Jesus and live like Jesus. We obey His commands, serve one another sacrificially, and encourage each other to deeper surrender. When we love one another this way, the world sees proof that Jesus is Lord. Our unity becomes the megaphone of the gospel.
Christian men, you are called to unity through obedience.
-
Lead at home by modeling humble submission to God’s Word.
-
Strengthen the church by serving, forgiving, and speaking truth in love.
-
Stand firm in culture by refusing to compromise with sin while showing Christ’s compassion to those who need repentance.
The world will not be convinced by our arguments, but by our love-filled obedience that displays Jesus Himself. Unity is the evidence of His presence.
Let’s stop settling for casual Christianity. Love Christ first, obey Him fully, and fight for a unity that declares to everyone: Jesus is alive and His love is real.
