Psalm 31.24 encourages being strong and confident to everyone who is waiting on the Lord.
David knew what it meant to wait upon the Lord for it was fourteen years of trials and suffering before he realized the promise God had made to him that he would reign as king over Israel.
Waiting on the Lord means obeying God and trusting Him for the results. Most Christians know nothing of this waiting and so experience little of the presence and activity of God in their lives.
Waiting requires both active obedience and patient faith. Without faith it is impossible to please God but He rewards those who earnestly seek Him.
Faith is obeying God and trusting Him for the results while experiencing trials and temptations that would dictate our doing something other than waiting upon the Lord and staying faithful to obey Him.
In the marketplace this looks like not lying or cheating to get the deal but trusting that God will provide as we do the right things the right way every day despite the pressure to immediately close the sale. It means trusting God for business while identifying ourselves as Christians and not being afraid that mentioning the name of Jesus will somehow poison our business prospects.
Faith is demonstrated by the woman who stays home to raise her children trusting God to provide through her husband and that her husband will be faithful to her because children need her love and support more than they need the things her money can buy.
Faith is teaching our children not to date so that they don’t disobey God through fornication but keep themselves pure for marriage so that the marriage bed remains undefiled waiting and trusting God to bring the right person when the time is right.
Where are we obeying God today that we must wait upon Him to fulfill His good ways toward us?
If we have no answer perhaps we have no faith.
