“If your hand or your foot causes you to fall away, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to enter life maimed or lame than to have two hands or two feet and be thrown into the eternal fire. And if your eye causes you to fall away, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to enter life with one eye than to have two eyes and be thrown into hellfire.” Matthew 18:8-9 CSB https://bible.com/bible/1713/mat.18.8-9.CSB
How seriously do we take our sin and disinterest in God? God takes it quite seriously. Jesus, God as man on earth, speaks powerfully against our tolerance of sin, yet we often dismiss His words as hyperbole. We should fear thinking God is the extremest and ourselves the more moderate and wise. What does our eye see that it wants that causes us to pursue that is not of the kingdom of God? Our eyes set our direction and move our will toward their desire. What are we pursuing? Upon choosing such a thing, our hands work to obtain what our eyes desire. What are we working for? Are we seeking the Kingdom of God and His righteousness? Are we working diligently to store up for ourselves treasure in heaven for eternal reward because our eyes are pursuing the glory of God and His pleasure with us for living as good and faithful servants in this world? What our eyes desire, and our hands work toward reveals the true god we love and serve. What evidence do we have for our children and neighbor that reveals our truest love is Jesus Christ and His will being accomplished on earth as it is in heaven? Let us cut off everything that hinders us from running the race with all of our heart, soul, mind, and strength for the love of God and the eternal benefit of our neighbor.
