Mark 3.35 promises anyone who does God’s will is Jesus’ brother, sister or mother.
God invites us into His family by doing what He does? What does God do? Everything that is good and perfect, holy and pleasing in His sight.
Most religions want obedience from its adherents both to empower the priests and to demonstrate control by the god. The One True God wants obedience so that our relationship with Him becomes more intimate.
Holiness is the nature of God demonstrated by perfection or obedience, when we obey God we become holy and thus share in His nature.
The key to obedience to God is first knowing what He defines as right and second doing it, not just in deed but in attitude as well.
God is not impressed with doing the right thing in the wrong way or with the wrong attitude.
To be perfect, the doing of good must be done and done from the right motive.
At the same time doing good does not mean not doing evil. That seems obvious but sometimes we define our goodness not by what we do but by what we don’t do. We deceive ourselves into thinking we are good people because we don’t do the things bad people do.
This isn’t goodness by God’s definition, goodness is doing good things, and He alone is the definer of those good things, with a good attitude.
To be like God is to be like God in attitude and action always engaged in bringing the goodness of God to earth even as heaven is filled with His goodness.
And God in His goodness, has told us everything we need to know for obeying Him through the record of His will we call the Bible.
We become holy by trusting God’s Son Jesus Christ for salvation. His righteousness is imputed to us. Only God is good.
And we do good because we want to be like Him and reflect glory back to him (Matthew 5:16).
Michele, you are indeed correct, holiness is imputed to us. Holiness is made evident by us through our doing good as God declares it, or more simply, we are being holy when we are being obedient to God. thanks for commenting.
