“Therefore, my brothers and sisters, you also were put to death in regard to the Law through the body of Christ, so that you might belong to another, to Him who was raised from the dead, in order that we might bear fruit for God.” Romans 7:4 NASB2020 https://bible.com/bible/2692/rom.7.4.NASB2020
The failure to execute the reality of this verse in the church today is the reason we see so little of the presence of God in our culture. We are born separated from God at birth, no child teaches their parent about the God Who truly is. Rather it is the job of the parent to teach the child who God is and what he requires of us even while correcting the self-centered nature of the child. This separation from God must be dealt with because we all have gone over to the dark side, we are separated from God and what is right and holy, to our selfish side and what is corrupt, evil, and bad. This separation is sin from which we are required to repent, we must turn away from that self-oriented life and turn to God and a Christ centered life. We are to learn from Jesus and obey all His commands to us. This is what it means to belong to Jesus. To many Christians like Jesus, worship Jesus occasionally but are not owned by Jesus, are not submitted to Jesus as evidenced by a diligent and determined effort to know Him and to do that which pleases Him. The Christian should be able to assess his life and see results that please God in it. People coming to faith, people growing in their faith because of our work in their lives. All the good we do should lead to people coming to Jesus as Savior and growing in their knowledge of His lordship over their lives. This is the fruit God seeks, eternal fruit that glorifies Him. If we are not meeting with God in His Word and with His people to apply that word and we are not working with our neighbor to reveal Jesus to him, so he comes to know him, then we are still in the flesh and have yet to be born again of the Spirit.
