“Then he said to me, “Do not be afraid, Daniel, for from the first day that you gave your heart to understand this and to humble yourself before your God, your words were heard, and I have come in response to your words. And he said, “O man of high esteem, do not be afraid. Peace be with you; gather strength and be strong!” Now as soon as he spoke to me, I received strength and said, “May my Lord speak, for you have strengthened me.”Daniel 10:12, 19 LSB https://bible.com/bible/3345/dan.10.12-19.LSB
Why was Daniel considered such a great man of God? Three reasons seem evident to me. First, Daniel sought to know God. Daniel aggressively went after God through His word, prayer, and fasting. Daniel read and studied the word so he knew what it said, then he prayed and fasted before God to understand the Scripture’s meaning. This led to the second attribute that made Daniel great. It was his humility. As Daniel read the scriptures, he understood the greatness and righteousness of his God better and therefore became increasingly more humble before Him. Daniel’s circumstances resulted from the Almighty punishing Israel. Daniel understood that and so feared God greatly. This fear of God led to Daniel obeying God. Daniel made obedience to God his highest priority. This was the third attribute of Daniel’s greatness. Obedience to God manifested in what he ate when he prayed, what he said, and how he conducted his work. Daniel stayed faithful to God because He loved God, seeking His face, falling before Him only to get up again to serve Him. Love, humility, and obedience are the character qualities of the man of God that created delight in the eyes of God.
