Be Holy as God Is Holy: Living a Life Set Apart for God’s Mission

(1 Pe) 1:13-15 CJB “Therefore, get your minds ready for work, keep yourselves under control, and fix your hopes fully on the gift you will receive when Yeshua the Messiah is revealed. As people who obey God, do not let yourselves be shaped by the evil desires you used to have when you were still ignorant. On the contrary, following the Holy One who called you, become holy yourselves in your entire way of life

In a time when the Church sends mixed messages about who God is and what He requires, this command cuts through the confusion.

God has spoken. His Word is the standard.

Be Holy as God Is Holy Means God’s Word Is Our Authority

The Scripture is objective. It has not changed because God has not changed.

That means every message—whether from culture or even from within the church—must be tested against the Word of God.

We don’t define holiness. God does.

If we want to remain in His will and receive His reward—the salvation of our lives in His eternal kingdom—we must anchor ourselves in His unchanging truth.

Be holy as God is holy begins with submitting our thinking to Scripture, not shaping Scripture to fit our thinking.

Mission and Holiness Go Together

Peter gives us a simple, practical pathway for living the Christian life—and it’s twofold.

1. Live on Mission

We are here to see God’s Kingdom come and His will be done on earth as it is in heaven.

  • Our mission is the Great Commission
  • Our occupation is making disciples of all people
  • Our vocation is how we fund and fuel that mission

Your job is not your purpose—it’s your platform.

God has placed you where you are so His Kingdom can advance through you.

2. Live in Obedience

While we carry out the mission, we are to live like Jesus lived—in full obedience to God.

Holiness is not a feeling. It is a life aligned with God’s Word.

We do not conform to the world—even when the world’s message creeps into the church.

We conform to:

  • Every word from God
  • The leading of His Spirit
  • The example of Christ

Be holy as God is holy means rejecting worldly patterns and embracing God’s commands in every area of life.

God Has Given You Everything You Need

You are not left alone in this calling.

God has given you:

  • His Word — your authority
  • His Spirit — your power
  • His people — your encouragement

The Christian life is not complicated—but it is demanding.

Know His Word.
Obey His Word.
Encourage others to do the same.

And surround yourself with men who will do likewise.

Run Today’s Play:

Get your mind ready for work

Share your faith. Lead your family. Invest in another man.

Because holiness is not isolation—it’s alignment with God’s purpose.

And one day, Jesus is coming back.

So live now in a way that proves then…

you were set apart for Him.
