Luke 10:2-3, 17-18, 21 NIV “He told them, “The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field. Go! I am sending you out like lambs among wolves. The seventy-two returned with joy and said, “Lord, even the demons submit to us in your name.” He replied, “I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven. At that time Jesus, full of joy through the Holy Spirit, said, “I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children. Yes, Father, for this is what you were pleased to do.” https://bible.com/bible/111/luk.10.2-17.NIV
What brings God joy? Is that even one of our objectives, to bring God joy? Pleasing others more than ourselves is a sign of maturity and the deepest love. The Scriptures state God in Jesus was full of joy upon the return of His disciples short-term mission trip. Jesus was full of joy because they were obedient to the work of God, which is greatly needed; the harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. He was full of joy because He saw the effects of that work; satan fell like lightning from the sky. Jesus was full of joy because it was the humble, the simple, the faithful who obeyed Him for His purpose and glory and not men seeking glory and honor for themselves trying to create an audience of praise for who they are but instead, a people focused on others glorifying God. The harvest remains plentiful, and the number of workers remains few. If we would bring joy to our God and Savior, we will engage in the mission of the disciple, the Great Commission. We will go as He commands to lead all we know to salvation through Jesus the Savior. We will go to as many as we can to share God’s love for all of humanity through the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus, Who is the Savior of the world and the only One Who can pardon our sins and restore us to the family of God. The obedient and faithful workers of God who seek the glory of God regardless of the cost bring our God great joy, which will result in great reward both now and in the age to come. Who is it who seeks to please God and cause Him joy?
