Chosen People of God: Living as Aliens and Ambassadors in the World

(1 Pe) 2:9, 11-12 CJB “But you are a chosen people, the King’s cohanim, a holy nation, a people for God to possess! Why? In order for you to declare the praises of the One who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. Dear friends, I urge you as aliens and temporary residents not to give in to the desires of your old nature, which keep warring against you; but to live such good lives among the pagans that even though they now speak against you as evil-doers, they will, as a result of seeing your good actions, give glory to God on the Day of his coming.”

You were not saved just to be safe.

You were saved to proclaim Christ.

Chosen People of God Are Sent to Proclaim Christ

God has adopted us through Jesus, the Firstborn Son, so that we might call others into that same family.

We are not silent recipients—we are active messengers.

Our mission is clear:

  • Declare His praises
  • Call people out of darkness
  • Urge repentance and faith
  • Make disciples of all nations

Chosen people of God exist to make Christ known everywhere.

Chosen People of God Live Set Apart from the World

Peter reminds us—we are aliens and temporary residents.

This world is not our home, so we do not adopt its values.

We no longer:

  • Define truth by culture
  • Redefine sin to fit comfort
  • Chase approval from people who reject God

Instead, we live in purity and holiness because we belong to Him.

That means our beliefs and actions will stand in contrast to the world.

And that contrast will cost us.

Expect Opposition When You Live Like Christ

When you speak truth and live holy, people will respond.

Some will repent.
Others will resist.

Peter says they will “speak against you as evildoers.”

Jesus said the same—if they persecuted Him, they will persecute you.

When you:

  • Call sin what God calls sin
  • Value life as God defines it
  • Promote responsibility and obedience to God

You will be misunderstood, labeled, and opposed.

But don’t miss this—

Your life is still a witness.

Even those who oppose you may one day glorify God because of what they saw in you.

Faithfulness Matters More Than Popularity

If your goal is for everyone to like you, you will compromise truth.

And in doing so, you align yourself with the world instead of God.

But if you live as one of the chosen people of God, you will:

  • Speak truth with courage
  • Live with integrity
  • Endure opposition with faith

And you will see both fruit and resistance.

Because that is exactly what marked the life of Jesus.
